A ka so / Brussels

Moss wall with solid wooden frame in mid-green reindeer moss for the A ka so store in Brussels. Owner Philippe Vertriest loves the natural appearance of our moss works, we love his powerful and pure collection. And not a little bit! It is impossible to walk outside without a purchase.

For a first store of its own, Vertriest resolutely opted for the home city of Brussels. In the new store, the creation of the collections is also explained with photos and videos from the workshops in Ethiopia. In addition, there is also a wall of real moss, hand-made by Mosmuur, “that reminds me of the intense green landscape in southern Ethiopia.”

The Belgian fashion brand A ka so opened a second store of its own within walking distance of MOMU. The founder of the brand, Philippe Vertriest, is father of two Ethiopian daughters and founded A ka so after the discovery of the book ‘Painted Bodies – African Body Painting Art, Tattoos & Scarification’: a concept that connects African artists and Belgian designers .

The label consists of collections for which the patterns and prints were designed by the Ethiopian Karastam. The tribe is known for its striking body painting, which is the inspiration for the prints. Every print in the collection is the work of a permanent team of artists – both women and men – from the Karastam. Akaso reimburses them like Western freelance designers. The garments are made in Europe with European materials.
